The Truth About Treadmills

Getting in shape is a lifestyle change, not something one does for a month or even a few months, drop the unneeded weight and then go back to living like a sloppy fool. Part of the lifestyle change includes a regular cardio workout, one that can actually burn calories, and not some kit you bought from a TV commercial at 2 in the morning.

Walking and running can be some of the most efficient ways of getting into shape and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but it’s not always easy or convenient to get outside and get some quick miles in. Getting a quick workout in the home has numerous benefits, but does require a small investment; the most common piece to invest in is a quality electric treadmill.

While you could get a gym membership, that also requires you to drive to the location, during their normal business hours to get a workout in, then drive home. Not only does this take time away from your friends and family, it means it’s less likely for you to actually do it. A treadmill in your home means a workout is only a room or two away.

There are some common myths about treadmills though. The first one is that they are expensive and this is just not true. Quality treadmills will last for years upon years, a gym membership last as long as you continue to pay the monthly fees.

Most consumers assume they take up a lot of space, again a falsity. Compact treadmills are designed to easily fold away and take up very little floor space when not in use. Another common misconception is that treadmills break often. While this is true for poorly made units available at discount stores, most fitness stores offer treadmills that feature extended warranties and are designed to be used for many years.

Lastly, the added benefit of having a treadmill in the home is that everyone can enjoy it. Unlike a gym membership where each family member or roommate must join, everyone can enjoy a treadmill under one roof. They are not only one of the best ways to get in shape, they can be used as a meeting place to get together and cheer each other on.

Home treadmills are good to stock especially if you don't like to run on rainy days. I prefer to have a treadmill rather than a stationary bike because it gives me the feel of running. I guess it's just hardwired on my brain. I love running but there are times when you just can't help but stay at home because of being tired of the day's work.
